Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Thanks PM Modi As State Gets Over 10 Lakh New Rural Houses Sanctioned Under PMAY-G

Mumbai: In a major boost to rural housing in Maharashtra, the central government has sanctioned an additional 10,29,957 houses for the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) for the financial year 2025-26. This significant announcement raises the total number of approved rural houses in the state under the scheme to 44,70,829 since its inception in 2016.

In an X post shared by the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, he expressed his deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for their continued support to rural development in the state.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently shared on social media an official letter from the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, announcing a significant development in rural housing for the state. As per the letter, the Centre has approved 10,29,957 additional houses for Maharashtra under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) for the financial year 2025–26.

What is Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G)?

The PMAY-G is a flagship rural housing scheme implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. Launched on 1st April 2016, the scheme's primary objective is to achieve ‘Housing for All’ in rural India by providing pucca houses with basic amenities to eligible households.

In a major policy decision, the Union Cabinet, in its meeting on 9th August 2024, approved the extension of the PMAY-G scheme for five more years, until March 2029, with a plan to construct 2 crore additional houses to address emerging housing needs in rural areas.

Since the inception of PMAY-G, a total of 33,40,872 houses have been allocated to Maharashtra. The recent approval of an additional 10,29,957 houses for the financial year 2025–26 aims to cover all remaining eligible beneficiaries identified in the finalised Awaas Plus 2018 survey.

This decision is expected to saturate the state’s rural housing waiting list and significantly advance the Government of India’s mission of ‘Housing for All’ in rural Maharashtra.
