Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Ganpati Mandal Samanvay Samiti has raised concerns over law and order situation on Friday, August 29- the day when Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil has called for a mega morcha in Mumbai demanding Maratha reservation.

Request For High-Level Meeting

The 10-day Ganeshotsav starts from August 27. The samiti has asked for a joint meeting with Mumbai police commissioner and BMC Commissioner.

Concern Over August 29 Rally

"August 29 is the third day of the festival and also the weekend starts. Thousands devotees from across Maharashtra come to seek blessings from Lalbaugcha Raja and another traditional mandals. While, many tourists come to experience the vibrant Ganesh festival. It is likely that lakhs of supporters of Janarge will participate in the rally. This might create a law and other situation due over crowding in Mumbai," said Naresh Dahibhavkar, president of the samiti.

Safety Preparations Sought

"We have also asked for enhanced CCTV surveillance, training to Ganpati mandal's volunteers to handle emergency situation and other factors which can be security threat. Since 42 years sarvajanik Ganeshotsav is been celebrated without any conflict. We want to ensure this year too that there is no outward situation due to any caste or religion conflict," Dahibhavkar added.
