Navi Mumbai: CIDCO has launched a Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Navi Mumbai and the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) focused on creating sustainable transportation options through 2054. The strategy emphasizes safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability, aiming to link various transport modes while encouraging public transportation. It includes public transit, personal vehicles, and non-motorized alternatives such as walking and biking, tackling urbanization challenges.

According to CIDCO vice chairman, Vijay Singhal, traffic in the area is anticipated to rise substantially due to projects like the Navi Mumbai International Airport and multiple corporate and residential developments, highlighting the necessity of the CMP as a framework for an adaptable transportation system. Nevertheless, the initiative has encountered backlash from residents because of unmet commitments, highlighted by the delayed completion of metro line-1 and persistent worries regarding drinking water problems in Panvel.

Navi Mumbai's existing transport system comprises primary roads, train tracks, the Belapur-Pendhar Metro line, and several bus services. Current advancements require a cohesive transportation approach. The CMP will assist in recognizing transportation deficiencies, prioritizing funding needs, and obtaining financial support for metro and public transit initiatives. It seeks to deliver effective transportation solutions that advance environmental sustainability and social equity, aligning with current transport research while improving traffic operations and road safety through thorough management strategies.

Navi Mumbai Airport Strives To Open In September

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to launch in September, with the Maharashtra home department approving 285 immigration staff, including inspectors and constables. Designed to alleviate congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, NMIA will feature four terminals, two runways, and a cargo terminal, aiming for 90 million passengers and 360 metric tonnes of cargo annually. A police station is planned, with 300 personnel to ensure safety. With 95% construction complete, initial operations may start in late September, managing 30 flights daily, while investments grow through realized Memorandums of Understanding.
