Veteran actor Anupam Kher marked his presence at the 11th International Day of Yoga with great pride, participating in a large-scale yoga session held at New York City's iconic Times Square. This annual global event, which celebrates the ancient Indian practice of yoga, witnessed Kher engaging with a global audience in the heart of Manhattan, proudly representing India on an international platform.

Yoga in the heart of New York

Taking to Instagram, Kher shared his experience from the event with a series of photos and videos. In one of the clips, he is seen saying,

“Namaste, it’s so wonderful to see Yoga being performed in this most iconic place in the world. I’ve grown up seeing my grandfather doing yoga… Yoga not only is great for our physical health but also for our mental health.”

The actor, dressed in casual fitness wear, joined hundreds of yoga enthusiasts on the bustling square early Saturday morning. His caption read:

“YOGA IN TIMES SQUARE NY: It was my privilege and honour to be there for #Bharat for the 11th #InternationalYogaDay at the iconic #TimesSquare in New York! Thank you @indiainnewyork and @binaysrikant76 ji for inviting me to this prestigious event. It was wonderful to practice #Yog in such a great environment! Jai Hind! #YogaForOneEarthOneHealth.”

India’s global yoga movement

The International Day of Yoga is celebrated globally every year on June 21, following its official recognition by the United Nations in 2014, thanks to a proposal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The 2025 edition continued the momentum with the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” promoting the holistic benefits of yoga for individuals and the planet.

The Times Square event has become a landmark celebration over the years, with thousands of participants gathering for mass yoga sessions amidst the buzz of New York City. Anupam Kher’s presence added a strong cultural and patriotic element to this year’s event.

On the work front

Kher’s visit to the United States wasn’t limited to Yoga Day. He is currently touring with his upcoming directorial venture, “Tanvi The Great”, which had its grand premiere at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) on June 19. The film is also scheduled for screenings in Austin on June 21 and Houston on June 22.

Set to release in Indian cinemas on July 18, Tanvi The Great marks the acting debut of Shubhangi Dutt. The film features an impressive ensemble cast including Iain Glen, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker, and Nasser.
