The same judges had derided her for her 'loose tongue'

New Delhi: In a major relief to suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, the Supreme Court, on Wednesday, clubbed all the FIRs lodged against her across the country and transferred them to Delhi Police’s special Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Cell (for cybercrimes), in connection with her remark on Prophet Mohammad.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Jamshed B Pardiwala said it was inclined to follow the view taken by the apex court in AltNews journalist Mohammed Zubair’s case.
Notably, the same judges sitting on a vacation bench had lambasted her on July 1, refusing to club the FIRs against her, saying her “loose tongue” had “set the entire country on fire” and she is “singlehandedly responsible” for what is happening in the country.
With regard to her plea to quash the cases, the bench said her counsel can approach the Delhi High Court. It also granted her protection from arrest till the investigation is complete. “We have gone through the contents of the application and the additional affidavit with the help of these counsel,” the court said.
The court’s earlier observations against Nupur had come in the backdrop of the brutal murder of a tailor in Udaipur by two men, who had posted the murder video online, claiming to avenge an insult to Islam.
