Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): MiC member Prakash Sharma on Saturday handed over a memorandum to the CM Mohan Yadav seeking closure of toll tax on the Indore Road, where work is in progress for converting the road from four-lane to six-lane.
According to Sharma, while the conversion work is progressing rapidly and is commendable, the route currently suffers from excessive diversions. In several places, the road has deteriorated significantly and has narrowed down to a single lane.
With the six-lane construction still incomplete, frequent traffic congestion has become a persistent issue, causing severe inconvenience to commuters travelling not only between Ujjain and Indore but also from across the country.
He also mentioned in the memorandum that during the holy month of Shravan, devotees and religious tourists from across India and abroad visit Ujjain to seek the blessings of Lord Mahakal. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing construction, pilgrims are facing serious travel disruptions.
What would typically be a smooth journey now takes two to three times longer. The poor and incomplete condition of the road is directly impacting religious tourism in the region. As public representatives, consistent appeals have been made through various platforms on behalf of the people, urging that this route be made toll-free until the six-lane construction is fully completed.
