Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) has issued a crucial notification on Monday, revoking the five-year age relaxation previously granted to candidates under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.
Following a recent directive from the High Court, the MPPSC announced that EWS candidates will now be subject to the same age limit as general category applicants — 40 years. This marks a significant policy reversal from February 2022, when the age limit for EWS candidates was increased to 45 years, similar to the relaxation granted to SC, ST and OBC categories.

Since that 2022 directive, EWS candidates had been conditionally allowed to benefit from the increased age limit in various examinations. However, with the new notification, this benefit stands withdrawn. This change will directly impact all pending examinations.
EWS candidates who have crossed the age of 40 as of January 1, 2025 will now be deemed ineligible and will not be allowed to appear in these exams. The MPPSC will have to cancel selection of those EWS candidates who were given age relaxation benefit since 2022.
