Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A woman was arrested for stealing cash and valuables worth over Rs 12 lakh from her friend’s house in the Sanyogitaganj area, police said on Sunday. The woman had been detained after a few days of the FIR but police had to release her as they did not have sufficient evidence against her.
According to Sanyogitaganj police station in charge Satish Patel, Ritesh Sakhla, a resident of Kanchanbagh area, had lodged a complaint that cash and gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 12 lakh were stolen from his house.
During the investigation, the police suspected that Sakhla’s neighbour Chanchal Meena was involved in the theft. She was detained but there was no evidence against her so the police had to release her.
As she was a prime accused in the case, the police later gathered her mobile phone and bank account details to establish her role in the theft. The woman was again detained for questioning. This time, she allegedly confessed to her crime and informed the police that she used to visit Sakhla’s place as his wife was her friend.
When Chanchal was at the complainant’s house, she had seen his wife keeping ornaments in the almirah. After that she somehow managed to steal cash and ornaments from the almirah. She had sold some ornaments to a bullion trader named Anshul Jain of Nagda. Police later detained Anshul and recovered the stolen ornaments. The police have recovered Rs 3.37 lakh in cash and ornaments worth Rs 9 lakh from the accused and further investigation is on.
