Kasrawad (Madhya Pradesh): Illegal trade of liquor is going on just 500 meters from the Khalatanka police post, near the Maral intersection on the National Highway.
Grocery and soft drink shops are doubling as illegal liquor outlets, with vendors converting backrooms into makeshift bars where liquor is served discreetly. Despite the open operation, authorities from the police and excise departments appear indifferent.
Residents allege that either officials are unaware or are willfully ignoring the situation. Shops display liquor bottles openly, treating them like regular goods, without fear of enforcement. Curtains shield the illegal activity inside shops, where truck drivers and local drinkers are served domestic and imported liquor.
The stretch near Maral Phata is a busy industrial area with many workers commuting daily, raising serious concerns about potential incidents. Locals demand an urgent crackdown before the illegal trade escalates further. So far, only token action has been taken by authorities, while the illegal business continues to thrive.
Immediate intervention is needed to prevent any serious law-and-order situation, say locals.
In response to concerns about illegal liquor sales near Maral Phata, excise inspector Om Prakash Malviya stated that action would be taken promptly upon receiving any specific information. He added that the department is continuously conducting operations to curb illegal liquor activities in the region and remains committed to strict enforcement.
