Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The state excise department has taken action against more than two dozen people for allowing people to consume or sell liquor illegally from their dhabas, restaurants and other places, an officer said on Sunday.
On the instruction of Assistant Excise Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari, the teams led by excise controller Devesh Chaturvedi and ADEO Manoj Agrawal raided many places including dhabas on Bypass Road and other places, outside the liquor shops and registered many cases against the owners of dhabas and other establishments under the relevant section of the MP Excise Act.
On Saturday, during the raids 25 people were booked and further action is being taken against them.
The officials said that the drive against the illegal ahatas would be continued in the district. After the ahatas (places where people used to consume liquor) were closed from March 2023, people may buy liquor form the shops and consume at their places only.
After this order, many people started consuming outside the liquor shops and the dhabas and restaurants illegally so the excise department had to take action against illegal ahatas.
