Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Ahead of Raksha Bandhan, the district administration launched a special inspection drive to ensure purity and safety of food items, especially sweets.
Acting on the directions of Collector Asheesh Singh, food safety officers collected 18 samples from various sweet shops across the city.
During inspection at Milan Sweets at New Gauri Nagar, officials found that the owner Phoolchand Kumawat did not possess a valid food licence despite ongoing sweet production on the premises.
Samples of Milk Cake and Kanchan Shri traditional milk sweets were collected. Suspecting adulteration and unauthorised production, around 106 kg of sweets worth Rs 48k were seized and production was ordered to stop until a valid licence is obtained.
Samples were also collected from other establishments, including Mehak Mawa Bhandar (3 mawa samples), Natural Meva (cashew and ghee), Quality Sweets, Shri Sanwariya Sweets & Namkeen, Man Mandir Sweets and Prem Misthan Bhandar.
Shop owners were instructed to maintain hygiene, use permitted food colours minimally, ensure quality raw materials, maintain personal cleanliness of food handlers, and possess valid food licence.
The drive will continue through the festive season and all collected samples have been sent to the state food testing laboratory.
