Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh): A man was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of 10 years and a fine of ₹1 lakh by additional special judge (NDPS), Mandsaur.
Accused Shyamlal Patidar, son of Nanalal Patidar (age 36), resident of Ranayara under Nahargarh police station juridication has been convicted for illegal trafficking of poppy husk.
According to prosecution media cell in-charge Deepak Jamra, the incident occurred on October 18, 2016, when sub-inspector Rauf Khan and his team were on patrol in Ranayara village. They spotted two individuals sitting near plastic sacks along the roadside.
The suspects tried to hide among the sacks and attempted to flee, after noticing the police. One of them was caught by police, who was identified as Shyamlal Patidar.
Upon searching the sacks, the police found a coarse powdered substance which after inspection was confirmed to be poppy husk. Shyamlal had no valid documentation or licence for its possession or transport and admitted he was awaiting a vehicle to smuggle the substance to Rajasthan. A total of 522 kg of Poppy husk was recovered from 13 sacks.
Following a thorough investigation, charges were framed under the NDPS Act and the case was prosecuted by special public prosecutor Deepak Jamra.
