A 17-year-old boy who was making a dangerous reel was swept away by the strong currents of the River Ganga in Prayagraj on Thursday. The Class 12 student had gone to bathe in the Ganga with his friends. He was making a reel in deep water when he suddenly started drowning. He kept shouting for help for about 10 minutes before being swept away by the strong current.

As the boy kept struggling for his life, people standing on the riverbank kept making videos of him. Seeing the river's turbulence, no one had the courage to save the teenager. The boy's friends called divers, but to no avail as they arrived 30 minutes later. Divers searched for the boy until evening but could not locate his body.

According to reports, the incident occurred at Chatnaag Soham Ashram Ghat in Jhunsi. The teenager was Class 12 student at a nearby college.

The victim, identified as Alkaif (17), a resident of Kohna village in Jhunsi, was the third among four siblings.

Alkaif had come to bathe at Chatnaag Soham Ashram Ghat on the Ganga with two friends on Thursday evening around 5 pm. He was standing in the water making a reel. His friends were also bathing nearby. While making the reel, Alkaif went into deeper water.

During this, his foot slipped causing him to get caught in the strong current. He started shouting "save me, save me." But due to the strong current, people standing on the ghat did not have the courage to save him. Some people kept making videos of him drowning.

Alkaif's friends informed the police present at the ghat and also told his family members. As soon as the family received information about the incident, they reached the spot. Police began searching for the teenager with the help of divers. Due to the very strong current, he could not be traced.

Jhunsi Police Chowki In-charge Deepak Jaiswal started a search operation with a team of divers. No trace of the teenager could be found until late night.

Police stated that currently the water level of the Ganga is near the danger mark. They have appealed to people not to perform dangerous stunts for social media content and to exercise caution.
