Lucknow: The Outer Ring Road encircling Lucknow is set to become safer and more technologically advanced with the implementation of a Traffic Monitoring Camera System (TMCS). The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is accelerating the installation process, aiming to complete it by March 2026.
This new system will curb overspeeding, a major cause of accidents on the ring road where speed limits are 60 km/h for heavy vehicles and 80 km/h for light vehicles. Cameras will capture violations, and fines will be sent directly to vehicle owners.
Repeat offenders will face stricter legal action, fostering greater discipline among drivers.
Beyond traffic enforcement, the cameras will also enhance security and crime control. A proposed control room, linked to the police control room, will monitor vehicle thefts, hit-and-run incidents, and other criminal activities. NHAI officials anticipate monitoring approximately 30,000 vehicles daily, providing real-time footage to police for swift action.
