Uttar Pradesh News: Groom Walks Away 18 Hours After Wedding In Jhansi Over Caste Dispute
According to the groom’s father, the family was told the bride belonged to the same community. The girl’s brother reportedly demanded ₹50,000 as a precondition for the marriage, of which ₹20,000 was paid upfront. The wedding was solemnised at Badi Mata Mandir with full traditional rituals.

Jhansi: A marriage in Jhansi’s Raxa area came to an abrupt end just 18 hours after the wedding when the groom discovered that the bride belonged to a different caste. The couple had tied the knot at a local temple on June 27 following Hindu rituals. However, the groom’s family claimed that the bride's caste identity had been concealed during initial discussions.
According to the groom’s father, the family was told the bride belonged to the same community. The girl’s brother reportedly demanded ₹50,000 as a precondition for the marriage, of which ₹20,000 was paid upfront. The wedding was solemnised at Badi Mata Mandir with full traditional rituals.
Tensions escalated when, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, the bride’s brother revealed that they belonged to another community. A dispute followed, and the groom’s family took the bride back home.

The next day, both families appeared at the local police station, where they decided to dissolve the marriage by mutual consent. The bride subsequently returned with her brother.
No formal complaint was filed. Authorities advised the parties to seek annulment through the legal process
