Lucknow: On July 29, 2025, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel achieved a new milestone, becoming the longest-serving Governor in the state's history, completing six years in office. She also holds the record for the longest tenure as a Governor under the Modi government, although she is not yet among the top five longest-serving Governors nationally.
Patel resigned as Gujarat's Chief Minister on August 7, 2016, subsequently serving as Governor of Chhattisgarh and then Madhya Pradesh.
She was appointed Governor of Uttar Pradesh on July 29, 2019. Her term is set for five years or until a new Governor is appointed, reflecting her strong standing within the central government and the BJP.
In the past year, Governor Patel has been notably more active in Uttar Pradesh, openly commenting on the state government's performance and hosting legislators at the Raj Bhavan.
