Uttar Pradesh Crime: Passenger Beaten To Death On Train In Baghpat After Fight Over Seat

In a chilling act of violence aboard a moving train in Uttar Pradesh, a 39-year-old man was beaten to death late Friday night following an altercation over a seat. The victim, Deepak Yadav, was returning home to Baghpat on the Saharanpur-Delhi passenger train when the dispute turned deadly.

The incident occurred between Fakharpur and Khekda stations in Baghpat district. According to police, Deepak, who worked at a chandelier showroom in Delhi’s Bhagirath Palace, got into an argument with a group of youths over seating arrangements. The argument quickly escalated, and nearly 15 to 20 individuals reportedly assaulted him using fists, kicks, and belts.

The savage assault continued for almost 10 kilometres as the train moved from Fakharpur to Khekda. While a few passengers tried to intervene, they were allegedly shoved aside by the assailants. By the time the train reached Khekda station, Deepak was lying unconscious. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The attackers reportedly jumped off the train and fled as it halted at Khekda. Sources said some of the accused may have been intoxicated. In fact, passengers revealed that a group of miscreants—possibly the same individuals—had harassed and beaten other commuters on the same route a few days earlier during a similar seat-related scuffle.

Police probe underway

Baghpat police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack. CCTV footage from the train stations and eyewitness statements are being examined.

"This is a serious and disturbing incident. We are scanning available video footage and questioning passengers to trace the attackers," said a senior police officer.

Deepak, a resident of Baghpat, was known to travel every weekend from Delhi to his hometown. His family is in shock and has demanded strict action against those responsible for his death.

The incident raises fresh concerns about passenger safety on unreserved trains, especially during night hours.
