Gonda, Uttar Pradesh: In a bizarre incident, a man in Gonda district caught his wife with her alleged lover and, instead of involving police or family courts, took them straight to a temple and had them married on the spot. The woman later claimed the entire act was done forcibly and under threat.
Harishchandra, a 40-year-old resident of Dan Bahadur Dih village in Khodare area, had been married to Karishma (35) for 15 years and the couple has two children. On June 19, after being alerted by locals, he returned from the market and found Karishma in a compromising situation with Shivraj Chauhan, a man she allegedly began seeing about a year ago.
In a dramatic turn of events, Harishchandra washed the sindoor from Karishma’s parting, took the couple to Budhau Baba Mandir just 500 metres from the village, and called a pandit to perform their wedding rituals. Videos of the ceremony surfaced on social media.

‘She Tried to Kill Me and My Son,’ Says Husband
According to a report by Dainik Bhasker, Harishchandra told locals that Karishma had tried to poison him due to the affair. “She has also tried to kill my son by mixing poison in his medicine. Even after I became bedridden post-surgery, she continued meeting him. I’ve abandoned her and I’m satisfied with their marriage now,” he alleged.
Karishma, however, told the publication, “I don’t know anything. All this was done forcibly with me… the police even guided us to take a back road, saying there were people planning to kill us.”
Shivraj Chauhan, the man she was married to, said, “We got married in the temple and are satisfied with it. We were only in contact over phone calls, but now people are blaming me.”
Khodare police station in-charge Prabodh Kumar told the local reporters, “We have no formal complaint yet. If someone files one in writing, an investigation will be carried out.”
