A 25-year-old man from Ghaziabad's Tronica City area has been arrested for making a hoax bomb threat against Delhi's iconic Red Fort on Sunday night, with the shocking motive being to disgrace his parents over his marriage troubles.
The incident unfolded when Asif, son of Sadab Akhtar and resident of Rampark Extension, called the emergency helpline Dial-112 and threatened to blow up the Red Fort with explosives. The call immediately triggered panic within police ranks, leading to a massive manhunt operation.
During interrogation, Asif revealed a disturbing family situation that drove him to make the false threat. According to ACP Loni Siddharth Gautam, the accused explained that his elder brother is differently-abled, which has prevented his marriage prospects. This family circumstance has also become an obstacle to Asif's own marriage plans.
"The accused told us during questioning that his elder brother is disabled, due to which his marriage could not take place. Because of his elder brother's unmarried status, his own marriage is also not happening," ACP Gautam stated.
Frustrated by the marriage deadlock, Asif allegedly hatched a plan to defame his parents. He called the emergency number and falsely claimed that his parents were plotting to bomb the Red Fort before abruptly disconnecting the call.
The hoax call immediately set off alarm bells in the police department. Officers began tracing the phone number and launched an intensive search operation to locate the caller.
ACP Loni Siddharth Gautam confirmed that the accused has been formally arrested and appropriate legal action is being taken against him for the hoax terror threat.
