Uber Driver Who Sped Away To Evade Traffic Police, Ignoring Passengers' Pleas to Stop, Arrested in Noida After Video Goes Viral

The Gautam Nagar Police arrested an Uber driver on Friday, a day after a frightening video of him driving recklessly to evade traffic police went viral on social media, sparking outrage among netizens.

Police said that after the video of dangerous driving went viral on Thursday, 14 August, a case was immediately registered after taking cognisance of the footage.

Noida Central DCP Shakti Mohan Awasthi said, "The cab driver has been arrested and after seizing the vehicle, a challan has also been issued. The cab driver is being sent to judicial custody."

On Thursday, a video surfaced on social media showing a woman pleading with the cab driver to stop the speeding vehicle, warning that they could run into trouble if he continued driving recklessly. Moments later, the video shows the cab narrowly missing a collision with another car.

Despite repeated requests from the man and woman in the back seat, the driver ignored their desperate pleas. The man even offered to pay the fine on the driver's behalf, but the driver refused to stop.

"Meri gadi band kar denge, paper tute hue hain," the driver says, which roughly translates to: "They will seize my car; my documents are incomplete." The video then ends abruptly, likely due to the impact of the reckless driving.

In a second video, the couple's young daughter can be heard crying loudly in fear, while her parents continue urging the driver to stop the car. The woman can be heard repeatedly saying, "Bhaiya, please gadi rok do," which translates to "Brother, please stop the car."

At one point, the woman even offered a compromise, saying that if the driver didn't want to stop completely, he should at least slow down so they could get out safely. Eventually, the cab driver pulled over. The moment the family stepped out and shut the door, the driver sped away from the scene.

The videos of the incident were shared by the passenger himself, who has been identified as Sanjay Mohan. The footage quickly went viral, with social media users expressing outrage over the driver's behaviour and concern for the family's safety.
