The controversial statement made by Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ramjilal Suman about Rajput emperor Rana Sanga has sparked fierce backlash from leaders in Rajasthan, as the warrior king belonged to Chittorgarh.

Rajput leaders across party lines, along with Rajput community organizations, have condemned Suman’s remarks as "shameful" and an "insult to Rajasthan", demanding an immediate apology from the MP.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat criticized the statement on X (formerly Twitter), calling it "petty politics of appeasement" and an attempt to "please a particular class that glorifies invaders as heroes."

“SP MP Ramjilal Suman has exposed his party’s mindset. How can an MP from a party that celebrates hooliganism as public service understand the sacrifice of a warrior who took 80 wounds defending Bharat from invaders?” Shekhawat said.

Rana Sanga (Sangram Singh I) was the Rajput ruler of Mewar (1508–1528 CE) and a Sisodia dynasty icon. His legacy is deeply revered in Rajasthan, leading to protests in Jodhpur, Chittorgarh, and other cities demanding action against the SP MP.

Rajasthan Deputy CM Diya Kumari posted on Instagram:
“Mocking a warrior who fought for India despite 80 wounds is an insult not just to Maharana Sanga and Rajasthan, but to India’s bravery. Suman’s words are shameful—he must apologize publicly.”

Former LoP Rajendra Rathore (BJP) accused Suman of "insulting a mighty emperor’s sacrifice in Parliament."

Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas also condemned the remarks, calling them "unforgivable" and urging Parliament to revoke Suman’s membership for "disrespecting historical legends."

The issue reached the Rajasthan Assembly, where BJP MLA Shrichand Kriplani (Chittorgarh) demanded action against Suman. However, Congress MLA Harimohan Sharma objected, calling it "non-discussable", leading to an uproar. BJP MLAs accused Congress of "exposing its hypocrisy."
