Prayagraj Floods: 70,000 Homeless, Nearly 5,00,000 Affected As Ganga–Yamuna Recede; Relief, Rescue And Damage Assessment Underway
As the water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers begin to recede in Prayagraj, they leave behind widespread devastation. An estimated 70,000 people have been rendered homeless, and over 2,000 homes have suffered extensive damage.

Prayagraj: As the water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers begin to recede in Prayagraj, they leave behind widespread devastation. An estimated 70,000 people have been rendered homeless, and over 2,000 homes have suffered extensive damage. The flood-affected population, nearing half a million, continues to struggle with food and water shortages.
Agriculture Hit Hard — Over 2,000 Hectares Damaged
The agriculture sector has also taken a heavy hit. The state agriculture department estimates damage to more than 2,000 hectares of paddy and vegetable crops. Over 290 villages and nearly 60 city neighborhoods remain impacted. Currently, 9,368 people have taken refuge in 21 relief camps, while others have relocated to rented accommodations or with relatives.
Administrative response includes deployment of 330 boats and 29 motorboats, with connectivity still disrupted in 68 villages. Relief teams from NDRF and SDRF comprising 630 personnel are engaged in rescue efforts.
Health concerns are rising due to water contamination and unhygienic conditions.

DM Manish Kumar Verma confirmed that assessment of home and crop damage is underway, and cleanup operations will follow. The floods have damaged over 200 roads and bridges, paralyzing transportation in several areas. Prayagraj's dual river geography, with added pressure from tributaries, continues to make the region highly flood-prone.
