Objectionable Lyrics: Honey Singh, Aujla Fail To Appear Before Women’s Panel |
Chandigarh: Punjabi singers YoYo Honey Singh and Karan Aujla – who were summoned for offensive lyrics in their songs – on Monday failed to appear before the Punjab State Women’s Commission stating they are currently abroad for their respective pre-scheduled shoots.
Commission Took Suo Motu Cognisance of Songs
It may be recalled that the commission had taken on August 7 last, a suo motu cognisance of the objectionable lyrics of Aujla’s "MF Gabru" and Honey Singh’s "Millionaire" songs and summoned them to appear before it here on Monday.
Taking a serious note of lyrics of the said songs sung by the two singers, which, she held were "derogatory and objectionable’’ against women, the Commission chairperson Raj Lali Gill had also written to Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, demanding an investigation into the matter and the action taken report in the same.
Chairperson Warns of Ban on Such Songs
She had also held that such language cannot be tolerated and such songs will be banned. Stating that singers are the voice of the society, she said that while on one hand they say they love their mother and on the other hand they use such abusive and offensive language for mothers in their songs.
