Rudraprayag: The Kedarnath Yatra was halted on Saturday after a landslide at Gaurikund due to heavy rainfall in the region. The path to the holy shrine has temporarily been blocked. Notably, the Kedarnath pilgrimage is part of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand.
The pedestrian path from Gaurikund to Kedarnath was closed at around 3.30 am on Saturday after the landslide, reported India Today. Emergency services are pressed into action to clear the route.
So far, there are no reports of any injuries. Several streams, including the Rumsi in the Bedu Bagad area, overflowed due to heavy downpour. Several hotels near the Kedarnath highway were reportedly flooded. Several homes along the highway also sustained damage.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rainfall warning over several districts of Uttarakhand over the coming few days.
