Kolkata: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat Nabanna.
Talking to the media, Abdullah thanked Mamata for standing by his side after the Pahalgam incident and also invited Mamata to Kashmir.
“I had a great meeting with Mamata didi. We have had good terms ever since we both were in the Parliament. In 2019, Mamata didi was the first one to express concern over whatever wrong that was happening in Jammu and Kashmir. After ‘Operation Sindoor’, Didi had sent a team to Poonch, Rajouri, and other areas affected by cross-border shelling,” said Abdullah.
Notably, during the meeting the two Chief Ministers had discussed ways to strengthen the bonds between West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir.
“I want both Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal to work together especially in industry and tourism sectors so that the bond increases,” the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister.
Accepting the invitation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she will visit Jammu and Kashmir after Durga Puja celebrations.
“I am ready to provide all possible assistance to Jammu and Kashmir, and I urge tourists from this state to visit the region. Kashmir is a very beautiful place and is close to my heart. Several utilities are available in Jammu and Kashmir. Even to visit Vaishnodevi one will have to cross Pahalgam. I urge the central government to ensure more safety and security for the tourists,” mentioned Mamata.
