Chandigarh: Punjab police on Sunday said that the Amritpal Singh Mehron, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, fled to UAE within hours of her killing, taking a flight from Amritsar airport.

It may be recalled that a highly decomposed body of Kanchan was found dumped in the rear seat of a car parked outside Adesh University in Bathinda district on Friday night after which the police had nabbed two accomplices of Amritpal.

Amritpal had released a video taking the responsibility of her murder and even warned other social media influencers against posting ``inappropriate’’ and ``vulgar’’ content in their videos.

Bathinda senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amneet Kondal told newspersons that though police had issued a lookout circular for Mehron on Saturday, on obtaining Amritpal’s passport details, it was learnt that he had fled to UAE within hours after killing Kanchan. Police has now initiated procedure for his deportation.

The SSP further said that it has also been learnt in the investigation so far that Amritpal had planned the murder three months ago with his associates Nimratjit Singh and Jaspreet Singh, both of whom have been nabbed.

`NO RIGHT TO INDULGE IN MORAL POLICING’

Meanwhile, the Punjab State Commission for Women, Raj Lali Gill said that the self-style vigilantes had no right to indulge in moral policing and take law into their lands.

Gill, however, also held that it was the responsibility of the women social media influencers to create content that did not breach the social and moral fabric of the society.

Meanwhile, social media influencers Deepika Luthra and  Preet Jatti had also informed police that they too had received similar threats.
