A famous businessman and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Bihar, Gopal Khemka, was shot dead outside his home in Patna on Friday night.

Patna: A famous businessman and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Bihar, Gopal Khemka, was killed in Patna on Friday night. According to reports, Khemka was shot dead outside his home in Patna. The businessman lived in the 'Twin Tower' society. The incident took place near the 'Panache' Hotel under the jurisdiction of the Gandhi Maidan police station.

Khemka was killed when he was reportedly on his way back home.Khemka reportedly died on the spot. The motive of the crime is not known yet. A bullet shell was recovered from the crime scene.

"On the night of July 4, at around 11 pm, we received information that businessman Gopal Khemka has been shot dead in the south area of the Gandhi Maidan... The crime scene has been secured, and further investigation is underway... One bullet and one shell have been recovered," Patna SP Diksha told news agency ANI.

Notably, the businessman's son, Gunjan Khemka, was murdered six years ago.

The police have cordoned off the entire area. A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter.

Opposition Slams Bihar Government:

Khemka was murdered just months ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls. His murder has sparked a political storm in the state, with Opposition leaders targeting the Nitish Kumar government.

Lashing out at the Nitish Kumar government, Independent MP from Purnea, Pappu Yadav in an X post said, "Nitish ji please spare Bihar". He called the adminstration of the NDA government in Bihar as "gunda raj".

Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rishi Mishra also slammed the state government over Khemka's murder. "We need to understand that the (Nitish) government has lost its credibility. The honourable CM is in an unconscious state," Mishra told news agency PTI.

"The police should have been involved in basic intelligence, however, they are working to nab liquor smugglers so that they can earn something. The people have lost trust on the government," he added.
