Bhubaneswar: Veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister Debendra Pradhan passed away on Monday morning at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness. He breathed his last at the residence of his son, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in New Delhi, family sources confirmed.
Pradhan’s Legacy & Political Career
Debendra Pradhan, a prominent leader from Odisha, played a crucial role in shaping the state's political landscape. He was a key member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as the Minister of State for Surface Transport and Agriculture in the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 1999 to 2004. During his tenure, he contributed significantly to infrastructure development and agricultural reforms.

He was elected to the 10th Lok Sabha (1991-1996) from the Deogarh constituency in Odisha as a member of the Janata Dal before later joining the BJP. His mortal remains will be flown to Bhubaneswar in the afternoon, where senior BJP leaders and political figures are expected to pay their last respects. The last rites will be performed at Puri Swargadwar, a sacred cremation ground in Odisha.
