Delhi: Heavy rain, hail and powerful winds battered several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday evening. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has reported disruptions on the Red, Yellow and Pink Lines near Shaheed Nagar, Jahangirpuri and Nizamuddin stations due to windstorm damage to Overhead Equipment (OHE) and objects on tracks.
'DMRC issues a service update. Due to sudden windstorm, there has been some damage to OHE or external objects falling/coming onto metro tracks at certain locations. As a result, Metro services are affected and being regulated on these affected sections on Red, Yellow and Pink Lines near Shaheed Nagar, Jahangirpuri and Nizamudin stations respectively. Efforts are being made to remove these objects and restore OHE on an immediate basis to restore normalcy.''
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm was driven by a cyclonic circulation forming over neighbouring Haryana. The system was further intensified by moisture-laden winds blowing in from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Around 8:30 pm, the IMD issued a red alert for Delhi-NCR, warning of further intense weather activity through the night.
