Panaji: Goa's Department of Tourism has initiated a 20-week monsoon campaign to promote the state as a year-round cultural tourism destination. Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications and Printing & Stationery Rohan A. Khaunte engaged with stakeholders, including GTDC officials and online travel agencies, advocating for an experiential tourism approach during the monsoon season. The campaign will utilize digital marketing strategies featuring a unified hashtag and themed promotions, encouraging travel agencies to offer customized packages for various demographics.

Minister Khaunte emphasized the importance of authentically showcasing Goa's culture amid recent tourism challenges and aligned the initiative with the "Goa Beyond Beaches" campaign, aimed at drawing families, students, and solo travelers through monsoon festivals. The UAE is identified as a key market, with plans to enhance air connectivity and integrate travel packages. Future stakeholder meetings will aim to bolster cultural tourism.

The Minister stressed that tourism promotion should prioritize memorable experiences over mere occupancy rates. As the next monsoon season approaches, strategies are being crafted to highlight Goa's beautiful rainy landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The comprehensive marketing plan includes partnerships with airlines, online travel agencies, and platforms like Airbnb, reflecting the significance of collaboration between the government and industry.

Goa has faced significant pre-monsoon rains, prompting the IMD to issue an 'Red' alert for expected severe weather. The rainfall has disrupted daily life and travel, with airline operations affected as IndiGo issued a travel advisory for potential delays and advised passengers to stay informed about flight statuses. Local traffic disruption is also anticipated as heavy rains continue.
