Patna: Exerting pressure on RJD and other allies of Bihar`s grand alliance before assembly election, Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh on Thursday asserted that his party could register victory on 40-50 seats in the assembly election if ‘right formula’ was used for distributing seats among allies of the opposition coalition.

Singh was addressing a press conference at the state party headquarters, Sadaqat Ashram. Newly appointed AICC In charge of Bihar Krishna Allavaru was also present.

Singh told newspersons that the grand alliance would register a more impressive result in the assembly election if the seats were distributed among allies in a ‘right’ manner.

“If right formula is used for distribution of seats among allies, our party`s tally will improve from last election`s 19 seats to 40-50 seats this time,” he remarked. Congress could win only 19 out of the total 70 seats it contested last time. On the other hand, CPI (ML) won 12 out 19 seats it contested, registering a much better strike rate than Congress`s. So, Congress has an apprehension that RJD may give more seats to CPI (ML) and Singh`s statement should be decoded in that perspective, remarked a political analyst.

Singh said that the grand alliance bagged only around 12,000 votes less than NDA in the last assembly election but the former would certainly form the government this time.

“RJD and all other allies should give a serious thought to the issue of ‘right’ seat distribution for Bihar assembly election. I appeal to all my allies to strike the seat sharing deal correctly,” he added.

Earlier too, Congress had claimed that tickets should be distributed among allies on the basis of their strike rate in the last Lok Sabha election. In the last Lok Sabha election, RJD won four out of the total 23 seats it contested, while Congress won three seats against nine seats it contested.CPI (ML) won two out three seats it contested.

Newly appointed AICC In charge of Bihar Krishna Allavaru in his maiden visit to the state after assuming the office asserted that he would not tolerate any factionalism in the party as collective efforts were required to register victory in any election.

He said that he would also visit various districts of the state in run up to the assembly election as he would shoulder the responsibility of restoring the party`s old strength with full sincerity.
