A group of tourists, including children, was confronted by locals at Uttarakhand's Sattal Bird Point for allegedly shooting down birds with airguns. A video showing the tourists reprimanding the locals has surfaced.
In the video, one of the locals first snatches the airgun from the group of tourists, then the camera pans down to a bird lying visibly dead on the ground. The man questions the tourist, saying, "Shock hai aapka?" — which roughly translates to, "Is this your hobby?" The tourist responds, "Humara shock nahi hai, bachchon ka shock hai," meaning, "It’s not our hobby, it’s the children’s hobby."
Initially, the man claims that the group is local, but when asked again, he admits that he is from Prayagraj. (formerly Allahabad)
The incident has raised questions over the absence of a forest guard on the spot. Sattal Bird Point is considered a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
The name 'Sattal' means 'seven lakes. Sattal has seven interconnected lakes. Reportedly, over 500 species of birds visit Sattal throughout the year. In addition to birds, the region also attracts a wide variety of moths, butterflies, beetles, and other insects.
