Four men allegedly attacked 20-year-old BBA student Rohan Soni, prime accused in a fatal hit-and-run near Shivranjini Crossroads. The assault, caught on video, took place at Ahmedabad's Gheekanta court on Tuesday. The attackers emerged from a crowd of media personnel and grieving relatives as soon as Soni stepped out of the police vehicle. They allegedly began assaulting him in full public view.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Ahmedabad witnessed high drama at Gheekanta court on Tuesday afternoon when four men allegedly attacked 20-year-old BBA student Rohan Soni, the prime accused in a fatal hit-and-run near Shivranjini Crossroads. The incident took place as police were bringing Soni for his remand hearing, following a crash that claimed the lives of two men, Akram Qureshi (35) and Ashfaq Ajmeri (22).
According to a Times of India report citing the FIR, the attackers, identified as Adil Shaikh, Uzaif Ajmeri, Sahid Mirza, and Ayaman Ajmeri, emerged from a crowd of media personnel and grieving relatives as soon as Soni stepped out of the police vehicle. They allegedly began assaulting him in full public view. A video of the incident has gone viral on the internet.
The FIR states that around 3.15 pm, officers rushed to shield Soni and escort him inside the court building to prevent further harm. In the scuffle, the assailants are accused of assaulting police personnel and obstructing them from performing their duties. One of the attackers allegedly shouted, “He killed our man, kill him too,” while attempting to get to Soni.
4 Accused Booked Under Several Charges
The Karanj police booked the four under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 121(1) (causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty) and Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation). Police confirmed that all four men are related to the deceased victims.
About Ahmedabad Hit-And-Run Case
The fatal crash occurred around 1.30 am on Monday when Soni was allegedly racing with three friends. Cops claim his speeding vehicle rammed into the victims’ two-wheeler near Shivranjini Crossroads, throwing them nearly 100 feet from the point of impact. Qureshi died instantly, while Ajmeri succumbed to injuries later at Sola Civil Hospital.
After the courtroom assault, police immediately reported the matter to senior officers and registered a separate case against the attackers. They were arrested on Tuesday night and produced in court the following day, where they were granted bail. Meanwhile, the police sought 5 days of police custody of the accused, citing the need to investigate and gather evidence. However, the metropolitan court has granted two days of police custody.
