A 21-year-old man from Telangana’s Siddipet district allegedly died by suicide on Friday after his parents, who work as farm labourers, told him that they could not afford to buy him a BMW car.
The deceased had studied up to Class 10 and was assisting his parents with agricultural labour. The deceased has been identified as Mohan, Bomma Johnny. Johanny had been demanding a BMW car from his parents for quite some time. He even threatened to end his life if they failed to do so.
According to police, his parents own two acres of agricultural land. Johnny aspired to a better life with a modern house and a BMW car. Police also confirmed the deceased was an alcoholic.
According to the parents, Johanny wanted to buy a BMW and build a modern house to enhance his standard of living by selling their two acres of land, which the parents refused to do.
According to the police complaint filed by the father of the deceased, he even threatened his father with suicide if he did not agree to buy him a BMW. The father tried to explain to him their financial situation and finally agreed to buy him a Maruti Swift Dzire car and even took him to a showroom in Siddipet on Friday.
However, Johnny refused to accept his father's proposal and returned home without buying the vehicle.
Later that day, around 3.30 pm, Johnny allegedly attempted to kill himself by consuming pesticide and informed his father, who, along with his elder brother, rushed him to a government hospital on their motorbike. After initial treatment, the man was transferred to RVM Hospital for specialised care. However, he succumbed on Saturday night, the police said.
The police have filed a case, and a detailed investigation is underway.
