Actress-singer Shruti Haasan recently admitted that she is 'terrified' of marriage. Although she values commitment and loyalty- qualities often associated with marriage, she is 'scared' of tying those to a piece of paper, stating that she doesn't need it and can uphold those values on her own. Shruti, who was earlier in a relationship with doodle artist and illustrator, Santanu Hazarika, shared that she did come close to tying the knot, but it was not something that fell apart because of her.

"It was not my fault. It was incompatibility. Because that’s a future - that’s potential children, that’s so many things. It just fell through," Shruti told Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast. The actress also expressed her desire to have children, stating that she has always wanted to be a mother, but not a single mother, as she believes two parents are important to raise a child, and if one can work towards that, it is great.

Further, Shruti added, "I will adopt, on a psychological level, I will stop bugging and over-nurturing the people in my life and give it to somebody who truly deserves it. I love watching people and seeing my friends change and grow in the flow of their lives, and I am non-judgmental about it. I would love to see that happen to someone so attached to me. Children are fascinating."

Talking about her relationship status, Shruti shared that she is currently single and loves herself the most. The 39-year-old added that she is working on embracing solitude and doesn’t like to label it as loneliness, as she has seen people choose relationships simply out of a fear of being alone.

"Being comfortable in my solitude first before getting into that space," concluded Shruti.

On the work front, Shruti will be seen next in Coolie, alongside Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, and Nagarjuna.
