Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, who was all over the news after calling Home Minister Amit Shah 'Desh ka Hanuman', finally ended his silence on the chatter around it, and stated that he only said what he felt in that moment. He also said that he it does not bother him if people call him names or label him as a 'sanghi' for his comment.

Varun told News18 that he likened Shah with Lord Hanuman because "he kept India and Modi ji in the forefront of every answer". The actor explained, "He was not promoting himself. He was not seeing if he will look good or bad if he says a certain statement. For him, the country was the priority. This is what I liked about him. He’s working towards the country’s prosperity and not towards his public image."

When informed that he was being labelled as a 'sanghi' on social media, Varun justified, "Let the critics speak. I am not a political man. When I have not liked certain things, I have called them out."

For those unversed, Varun attended the Agenda AajTak conclave on Saturday to promote his upcoming film, Baby John. During an interaction with Shah, Dhawan said, "People call you Chanakya of politics, but I would say ye actually desh ke Hanuman hai, jo niswarth desh ki seva kar rahe hai."

"Even actors, who have time to memorise their dialogues, cannot deliver them with such clarity like you did just now. This shows that it's coming straight from your heart," he added.

As soon as the clip went viral, netizens called Varun out for being "too desperate" and stated that it was a promotional move for his film, Baby John.

Meanwhile, Baby John is set to release in theatres on December 25, on the occasion of Christmas. Also starring Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi and Jackie Shroff, the film is directed by Jawan fame, Atlee. And if that wasn't enough, it also has a cameo by none other than Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
