Filmmaker Salim Akhtar, Who Launched Rani Mukerji & Tamannaah Bhatia In Bollywood, Dies At 82 In Mumbai
Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Salim Akhtar passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday (April 8) at the age of 82. The producer was known for launching some of the biggest names in the industry including Rani Mukerji with the 1997 film, 'Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat', and Tamannaah Bhatia with Chand Sa Roshan Chehra in 2005.

Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Salim Akhtar passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday (April 8). The producer was known for launching some of the biggest names in the industry including Rani Mukerji and Tamannaah Bhatia. He as 82 when he breathed his last.
The news of his demise was confirmed by his wife, Shama Akhtar. He died while undergoing treatment at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in the city. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
He is survived by his wife Shama, and their son, Samad Akhtar.
Salim launched Rani Mukerji with the 1997 film, Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat, and since then, there was no looking back for the actress. He also gave Tamannaah Bhatia her big break with the 2005 film, Chand Sa Roshan Chehra.

The Indian Film TV Producers Council mourned the demise of Salim and wrote on X, "Deeply saddening news Indian producer Salim Akhtar Ji has passed away. Deepest condolences to the family and loved ones. Om Shanti (sic)."
Salim's last rites will be performed on Wednesday, at 1:30 pm in Mumbai post the Zohra Namaz. He will be laid to rest in the graveyard near Irla Mosque in JVPD, a member of his family informed.
