'Chudail Lagti Hai': Jamie Lever Opens Up On Being Trolled For Her Skin Colour, Advised To 'Become Fair'

Actress-comedian Jamie Lever, the daughter of legendary Bollywood comic actor Johnny Lever, opened up on being trolled for her skin colour in a recent interview. She revealed how people even went on to call her a 'witch' for her looks, and how she was advised to "become fair" in her growing up years.

"I get so many comments. Kaali hai, chudail lagti hai, chudail jaise hasti hai, you are ugly, you won't get work in the industry, tu marr kyu nahi jaati, you are not getting work because of the way you look... I have received such messages all my life," Jamie told Hauterrfly.

She went on to say, "Colourism is such a huge issue here. Growing up, people would ask me to apply ubtans, turmeric masks, all of this to 'become fair'... Colourism is a major problem in our country."

During the podcast, Jamie also revealed how she was embarrassed and insecure about her body while growing up as she was a plump and curvy kid. "People would look and call me names. Even my family asked me to cover my posterior because I have a bigger hip. I have a pear-shaped body, so what do I do about it? I actually would wear only long kurtas and dresses to keep my lower body covered, and it is only much later in life that I learnt how to own my body and my curves," she shared.

On the work front, Jamie is a well-known face in stand-up comedy circles and she is also loved online for her short comic videos on Instagram. She marked her Bollywood debut in 2015 with Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, co-starring Kapil Sharma, and later went on to star in films like Housefull 4, Bhoot Police, Yaatris and Crakk.
