Telugu superstar and National Film Award-winning actor Allu Arjun had to spend a night in jail, despite getting bail in Sandhya Theatre stampede case. On Friday evening, hours after getting arrested, the actor was sent to a 14-day custody by a court in Hyderabad. Shortly after that order, he was granted bail by the Telangana High Court.
However, according to media reports, due to delays in paperwork, the Pushpa actor had to spend a night in Chikkadpally jail. Allu Arjun has now been released and this has brought temporary relief for him. A thorough probe into the stampede incident will continue.
Chanchalguda jail authorities also informed TOI that the bail order arrived late because of which Allu Arjun had to spend a night in prison, despite protests from his fans outside the jail.
The actor's lawyer Ashok Reddy informed media persons, "They received an order copy from High Court but despite that, they didn't release the accused (Allu Arjun)...they will have to answer...this is illegal detention, we will take legal action...as of now he has been released."
The actor was arrested on Friday afternoon from his Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, residence and was placed in 14-day judicial custody by a local court in Hyderabad.
Victim's Husband Wishes To Withdraw Complaint
Meanwhile, in another development, the husband of the deceased woman has expressed his willingness to withdraw the case. The incident, which occurred on December 4 at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, claimed the life of 35-year-old Revathi and left her eight-year-old son injured.
Revathi's husband, Bhaskar, reportedly stated that actor Allu Arjun has no connection to the stampede and that he was unaware of the actor's arrest. "I am ready to withdraw the case. I was not informed about the arrest, and Allu Arjun has nothing to do with the incident in which my wife passed away," he said.
Bhaskar further clarified the circumstances surrounding the tragic event, explaining that his family had gone to the theater because his son wanted to see the film. "There is no fault of Allu Arjun. The police did not inform me about his arrest," he further said.
The Hyderabad police had registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the Sandhya Theatre management under sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint initially lodged by Revathi’s family.
