Viral Video: A worrying scene was reported from Panchpara Primary School in Hooghly district, where nearly 68 students between the ages of 5 and 10 sit under umbrellas in classrooms because of major roof leaks during the monsoon. The school, which has been around for decades since 1972, has witnessed three out of four classrooms collapse, with the fourth remaining room in crumbling condition.
BJP Leaders Shared the Viral Video
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya on Friday shared a video on X of the classroom where students were forced to sit with umbrellas in classrooms due to a leaking roof.
Malviya wrote, “What a shame! This is the tragic reality of Mamata Banerjee’s ‘education model’ in West Bengal. In Hooghly district, 68 young students aged 5 to 10 are being forced to sit in classrooms holding umbrellas — because rainwater leaks through the broken roof of their school.”
He further added, "Where are the thousands of crores claimed to be spent on school infrastructure?
Where is the much-hyped “Banglar Shiksha”? When the government is busy promoting appeasement and photo-ops, this is what children in Bengal endure — a collapsed system, no dignity, no basic facilities. This is not governance. This is criminal neglect."

Another BJP leader Tushar Kanti Ghosh shared the same video and wrote, "Bengal’s Broken Education System. Panchpara Primary School, Pandua, Hooghly. 67 children study here with no roof as Rain pours in. Students sit under umbrellas in class. The roof may collapse at any time. @MamataOfficial ensures criminal negligence for Bengal's future."
Multiple complaints filed
According to India Today's report, Head Teacher Jayanta Gupta warned and said, "The situation is hazardous. Every day, these young students risk their lives to attend school."
Despite surveying his request, the Block Development Officer (BDO) claimed that nothing further had been done.
Jayanta has made numerous pleas to the civic organisation and school administration, emphasising the pressing need to fix the classrooms and the leaky roof.
No repair work has started in spite of several complaints that have been verbally and in writing communicated to the District Inspector of Schools (Primary) and the BDO. Rachana Banerjee, a member of parliament, was also consulted on the matter.
