Indore (Madhya Pradesh): As part of the state-wide ‘Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan’ aimed at water conservation and revival of traditional water structures, a 300-year-old historic stepwell built by Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar in Kanadia village, Indore, has been restored and beautified, on Sunday.

Sharing the event on his official X handle, CM Yadav tweeted, “The stepwell stands as a symbol of Madhya Pradesh’s glorious heritage and collective commitment to protecting water sources.” 

He further shared that the campaign has become an example of public participation, uniting people in the effort to preserve and rejuvenate vital water resources.

“This ancient structure, deeply connected to the memory of Lokmata Ahilya Bai Holkar, will continue to inspire people towards water conservation,” CM Yadav stated. “Now revived, the stepwell will support rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and rural water supply.”

The restored stepwell not only holds historical and cultural significance but also has the potential to become a major tourist attraction.

World’s tallest statue of Swami Vivekananda to stand in Indore

The event was attended by Cabinet Ministers Kailash Vijayvargiya and Tulsiram Silawat, MP Shankar Lalwani, Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, MLAs Ramesh Mendola, Malini Laxmansingh Gaur, and Golu Shukla, among other dignitaries.

Earlier in the afternoon, CM Mohan Yadav performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the 'world’s tallest statue of Swami Vivekananda, at the Devi Ahilya Sarovar Garden at Sirpur, Indore.

The statue weighs approximately 14 tons and is nearly 52 feet tall.

The site will also feature a dedicated gallery showcasing Swami Vivekananda’s life, thoughts, and vision, aiming to inspire youth and promote cultural pride.

"This monument will become a new symbol of identity for Indore," said CM Yadav. "It will stand as a cultural landmark, a spiritual center, and a future hub of tourism."

The event was attended by several dignitaries including Cabinet Ministers Kailash Vijayvargiya and Tulsiram Silawat, MP Shankar Lalwani, Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, MLAs Ramesh Mendola and Malini Laxmansingh Gaur, and Golu Shukla.
