Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh):  A 72-year-old woman was allegedly forced to hold a drip bottle for nearly half-an-hour for her injured grandson at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna, due to hospital staff’s negligence.

According to information, the incident occurred on Friday, after staff failed to provide a drip stand.

However, the hospital officials denied the allegations saying, “There is no shortage of stands.

The patient was brought in an ambulance, and within 5 - 7 minutes treatment was provided. The grandmother herself picked up the drip, but the patient has been treated properly.”

What actually happened?

Ashwani Mishra, 35, got injured in a road accident in Maihar after which he was admitted to the hospital. Despite his critical condition, no stand was arranged reportedly. This left his grandmother with no option but to hold the drip for 30 minutes while hospital staff looked on.

Eyewitnesses said there was no shortage of drip stands in the hospital and blamed staff indifference for the ordeal. The elderly woman’s trembling hands holding the bottle left many onlookers angry and distressed.

It was also found that the ambulance that brought Mishra reportedly broke down at the hospital gate and had to be pushed by bystanders to start again.

The hospital already has long-standing complaints. It is often criticized for lack of stretchers, beds, and basic patient care despite handling hundreds of patients every day.
