Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A police officer was slapped and beaten while he was trying to save a young man from being assaulted by the infuriated VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) members in Jabalpur on Saturday.
According to information, a protest was organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members at Jabalpur’s Malviya Chowk which turned violent leading to a clash between the VHP members and Jabalpur police.
Incident captured in video
The incident was also recorded in a video which is going viral on social media.
The violence reportedly began when a young man allegedly abused VHP members in an attempt to oppose the roadblock they had created.
Enraged, VHP activists surrounded the man and tried to assault him. Police officers intervened to protect the man, leading to an altercation between the protesters and the police.
Several officers injured
During the clash, some VHP members slapped a police officer, and several officers were injured while attempting to control the situation. The police claim that the VHP workers got into a fight among themselves also.
As per eyewitnesses, the violence included pushing, shoving, and verbal abuse during the protest. The situation worsened as the demonstrators went uncontrollable on the streets.
