Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): This May, the sun has taken a backseat and the clouds have stolen the spotlight. For the first time in years, Madhya Pradesh is experiencing an unusually wet and stormy end to the month of May - which is traditionally scorching Nautapa period.
As the monsoon has already arrived in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh is now experiencing the pre-monsoon phase with spells of thunderstorms, windstorms, and dramatic weather shifts.
Weather expected on Thursday
Heavy rain is expected in Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Harda, and Betul — up to 2.5 to 4.5 inches within 24 hours.
Districts including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Dhar, Agar Malwa, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Dewas, Vidisha, Sehore, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Balaghat, Guna, Mandla, Dindori, Umaria, Katni, Damoh, and Panna are expected to see thunderstorms and rain with wind speeds reaching up to 60 km/h.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, two cyclonic circulations and an active trough line have created a rare weather system, unleashing heavy rains and strong winds across large parts of the state. Southern districts like Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Harda, and Betul are on high alert, with forecasts predicting 2.5 to 4.5 inches of rainfall within just 24 hours.
Weather experts have confirmed that the stormy conditions will persist for at least the next four days. While daytime temperatures may rise slightly, the overall trend will remain wet and stormy.

May 30: Thunderstorm and rain alerts continue for Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Dhar, Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Harda, Vidisha, Sehore, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Balaghat, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, Dindori, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Katni, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, and Kusmi.
May 31: Rain and storm possibilities in Bhopal, Vidisha, Sehore, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Harda, Betul, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Alirajpur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat. Some areas may continue to receive moderate to heavy showers.
Temperature records
Despite high day temperatures persisting due to humidity, nights have turned relatively cooler. On Wednesday, maximum temperatures recorded included 35.8°C in Bhopal, 33.1°C in Indore, 41°C in Gwalior, and 38.8°C in Jabalpur. Pachmarhi recorded the coolest at 32°C.
