Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Now the facility of cornea transplant will be started in all the district hospitals of Madhya Pradesh.

The Madhya Pradesh government has taken this new initiative to promote eye donation and provide treatment on large scale. The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) had prepared a proposal and sent it to Bhopal, which has been approved.

First phase will start in Indore and Ujjain division

In the first phase of this scheme, transplant centers will be started in the hospitals of 15 districts of Indore and Ujjain divisions. Doctors and technical staff will be trained in these districts so that they can start this facility in their respective districts.

Training will start in MGM Medical College

The training will start from July 1 at MGM Medical College in Indore. Doctors will be given one month training and technicians will be given 15 days training. This training will be given by the expert team of the ophthalmology department of the medical college. About 100 cornea transplants are already done in this department every year and there is also an eye bank here.

Most of the district hospitals in the state already have operation theatres, microscopes and necessary equipment because surgeries like cataract are done there. Therefore, procedures like cornea transplant can also be started there easily.

Doctors opinion

According to Dr. Preeti Rawat, HOD of Ophthalmology Department of MY Hospital, this initiative will provide relief to those patients who are unable to get treatment in big cities due to lack of money or distance. Now they will be able to get the facility of eye transplant in their own district. Along with this, eye donation will also be encouraged, which will help more patients get vision.

Dr. Arvind Ghanghoria, Dean of MGM Medical College, said that this scheme will be implemented with the cooperation of the Health Department and the government. Transplant centers will be started in every district three months after the completion of training.
