Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The BJP leaders have been waiting for the election of the party’s state unit president for three months. The party held the election of its district units. Now, its leaders have set their eyes on the state president’s polls.
They want to know whether VD Sharma will remain the state unit president or some other person will take over. This dilemma has stopped all the activities relating to the government and organisation. The party is only carrying out the centre’s programmes. The state unit seems to have put off its activities until the election of its president.

There have been speculations about changes in the state cabinet since the assembly by-elections. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has 13 departments. The central leadership is also poring over giving more assignments to the ministers. But the leadership has stopped all the decisions until the election of the party unit’s president.
The party workers have been waiting for political appointments in corporations and boards for over 16 months. But the organisation’s main concern is to elect its president. The government wants to make political appointments only after the organisation is ready for it.
Sources say the government is waiting for the state president’s election and the executive committee’s formation to appoint the heads of corporations and boards. The three-month delay in the state president’s election has held up everything.
Sources said senior leaders of the state party unit had discussed the appointments in corporations and boards with national co-organisational secretary Shiv Prakash. The government put off these appointments till the organisational elections. But all decisions are up in the air because of the state president’s election. The leaders are also waiting for the election. Current state unit president VD Sharma is unable to organise any major event. The party always organises some events. But it has been busy only with routine activities.
A BJP leader said once the party decided on the state unit president, its activities would be clear.
According to him, party activities continue, but it is unable to take some major decisions. But there is no harm in waiting for the preparation of an outline for the next programmes, he said.
BJP office empty
The number of leaders and party workers visiting the BJP office has reduced, for the organisation has yet to elect its state president. Everyone is maintaining silence, for they are not getting any signals from the party. A leader of the party organisation says once the party president’s election and political appointments take place, the party office will look livelier.
