Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a major step towards inter-state collaboration, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Tapi Basin Mega Recharge Project at the Kushabhau International Convention Centre in Bhopal on Saturday.
The project aims to significantly boost irrigation and water recharge in both states. After years of delay, with the last inter-state control board meeting being held nearly 28 years ago, the two states have finally moved forward.

The project will irrigate approximately 1.31 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh and 2.30 lakh hectares in Maharashtra, particularly benefiting the districts of Buldhana, Amravati, and Akola in Maharashtra.
Now both Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra will approach centre with the request to include it in a central granted Project.
The project is expected to enhance water security in the region, and both states plan to approach the central government to request its inclusion in a centrally funded scheme.

In addition to this, the leaders also discussed other areas of mutual cooperation, including economic development, which will benefit both states.
This MoU marks a significant milestone in strengthening ties between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, paving the way for a more collaborative approach to resource management and economic growth.
