Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Speaker in the state assembly Narendra Singh Tomar said here on Monday that every member of the House should plant at least one tree and the people of the state should do the same.
A detailed, result-oriented discussion was held in the state assembly on ‘falling ground water level and destroying the surface water bodies’. The members discussed the issue for five hours and 40 minutes in the past five days.
Expressing his views on the situation arising out of the continuously declining groundwater level in the state and the continuous fall of traditional water storage structures, the Speaker said that every citizen should consider tree plantation as a duty.
Discussed in house meeting for 5 days
The issue was placed on the agenda of July 29. In view of the timeliness and seriousness of the issue, it was discussed in the House meetings for five days.
Parliamentary affairs minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said that this was a very serious subject and a meaningful discussion had taken place on the initiative of the Speaker.
Panchayat and rural development minister Prahlad Patel said that living with nature brought happiness. He also emphasized on conservation of rivers.
