Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Panic gripped the Ama Nala area in Jabalpur on Friday morning after labourers cleaning a public well found a large quantity of empty cartridges and hand grenade shells. Police rushed to the spot and seized around 50 empty cartridges and grenade shells from the well. The recovery was made near the Central Ordnance Factory in Khadmaiya.

Officials suspect the discarded shells may have come from the factory. The cleaning was being carried out by the municipal corporation ahead of summer. Workers informed Ranjhi CSP Satish Sahu after spotting the suspicious items. Following this, police teams reached the site and began an investigation.

According to information, ASP Suryakant Sharma said the items appear to be old and were likely dumped by scrap dealers. The area is home to a large labour population, raising suspicion that someone may have collected the shells from the factory’s low-profile range and thrown them into the well. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) also examined the seized shells to rule out any danger.

Officials from the ordnance factory have said that all decommissioned materials are handled with proper safety measures. Factory Work Manager Avinash Shankar stated that it will only be clear whether the shells belong to their unit after police submit a detailed report. Police are continuing their investigation and questioning local residents.
