Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): District Collector and Magistrate of Jabalpur, Deepak Saxena, has issued an order banning the use of e-rickshaws for transporting school students, on Wednesday.

The notice was also disseminated through his official X handle of Collector Jabalpur, which read, “Ban on Transporting School Children in E-Rickshaws in Jabalpur. For the safety of school children, Jabalpur District Magistrate and Collector Deepak Saxena has issued an official order banning the use of e-rickshaws for ferrying students to and from school.”

This decision follows directions from the High Court and public concerns reported by newspapers and other media.

‘Children do not follow safety measures’

According to authorities, e-rickshaws are often overloaded with children and do not follow proper safety measures.

Many of these vehicles also lack speed control, proper seating arrangements, and often operate without authorisation, which puts students' lives at risk.

Strict action against violation

The order cites Section 163 of Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 (BNSS) enforcing this ban. The ban applies across the district and is effective immediately.

The administration has directed school operators and e-rickshaw owners to stop using these vehicles for school transportation. Strict action will be taken against those who violate the order.

The announcement has been sent to local officials and police for immediate implementation and further necessary action.
